The Miraval Group has announced its acquisition of the 220-acre Travaasa Austin Resort in the Texas Hill Country. In collaboration with architect David Rau of New York-based Hart Howerton, Miraval plans to redevelop and expand the 70-room property into its first destination wellness resort in Texas and in the South. The redesign entails the renovation of the existing inventory, the addition of 50 guestrooms, the construction of new facilities, and the expansion the main restaurant and spa, which will more than double the size of the latter. It is slated for its rebranded launch as the 120-room Miraval Austin in January 2019.
The purchase from a subsidiary of Amstar Group LLC, which closed late last month, draws on the momentum of Miraval’s nationwide growth efforts. The brand debuted the Miraval Life in Balance Spa at Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, California last year, and also announced plans to redevelop the Cranwell resort in Lenox, Massachusetts.
