Mohegan Sun’s new 400-room Earth Tower hotel remains on course for its grand opening later this fall. The Uncasville, Connecticut, casino resort owned by the Mohegan Sun Tribal Gaming Authority, announced that it recently completed work on the glass façade of the new building.
The architect of record for the $130 million project is New York-based Kohn Pederson Fox (KPF), which completed Mohegan Sun’s 1,200-room Sky Hotel in 2002. The Earth Tower, connected to the rest of the property via a scenic walkway, will house an indoor pool, a fitness center, and ample event and meeting space.
While modeled after the existing Sky Hotel, the new building reflects a consciousness of the natural landscape and honors the natural forms of the riverfront location. The tower’s ground level will offer a 2,800-square-foot outdoor terrace covered by a 1,130-square-foot canopy that shields firepits, a grill station, and bar.
