In partnership with locally based Moncur Design Associates, Omni Hotels & Resorts has completed a $40 million revamp of Toronto’s Omni King Edward Hotel.
Originally designed by Chicago architect Henry Ives Cobb and locally based architect E.J. Lennox, the hotel opened in 1903 as Toronto’s first luxury hotel at a cost of $6 million. Omni Hotels & Resorts acquired the property in 2013 and began making upgrades to all 301 guestrooms, which now feature new furnishings, vintage crown moldings, high ceilings, oversized bedrooms, and marble bathrooms. Revamped event spaces, include the Vanity Fair ballroom, the Sovereign ballroom—complete with four new teardrop crystal chandeliers—the historic Windsor ballroom, and 22,000 square-feet of additional meeting area. In the lobby, decorative plasterwork along the ceiling and wood-paneled walls was restored, while contemporary furnishings are done in ivory, gold, and purple Two onsite restaurants, Victoria’s and the Consort bar, were also updated.
Twenty-nine Royal Club guestrooms and suites provide guests with special amenities and onsite guest services.
The property also includes retail outlets, a salon, spa, fitness center, and Lavazza Expression—an Italian café-inspired F&B outlet.
