The Peninsula Beijing has unveiled its new upgrades from Hong Kong-based designer Henry Leung of CAP Atelier. The $123 million facelift drew inspiration from the majestic landscapes, architecture, and culture of China’s Middle Kingdom.
Reflecting the modern transformation happening across Beijing, the lobby now comprises three stories, a Peninsula signature, and six pillars carved in white marble and engraved with an Imperial hexagonal motif. Elegant materials such as bronze, onyx, white marble, and rose wood are used throughout the hotel, chosen for their significance in historical Chinese design, while artworks by local artisans and artists are featured in every corner of the Peninsula Beijing, including an onyx “Spirit Wall” conceived by artists Belinda Chow in the lobby.
Guestrooms went from 525 to 230 suite-style rooms. The hotel’s theme suites include The Peninsula suite—styled after a Chinese aristocrat’s home—and 17 reimagined Beijing suites, while the Loft collection of duplex rooms offers a chic and sophisticated twist on urban living.
Onsite dining options have received updates as well, featuring herbs grown in the property’s greenhouse.
The full renovation is slated for completion in early 2017.
