Perched on the banks of the Colorado River and shadowed by towering red rock mesas, Red Cliffs Lodge Moab has emerged from a property-wide transformation.
Serving as a gateway to the iconic Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, the Marriott hotel spent much of the past year undergoing a comprehensive redesign. With public spaces envisioned by interior architect Sormeh Rienne and guestrooms spearheaded by Los Angeles-based Atwater Inc. Studio, the project bridges the gap between elevated hospitality and the rugged beauty of the region.
Bringing the desert indoors

“From the moment guests enter the lobby, the desert is present,” says Rienne. “When designing the public spaces of this hotel, I let the desert lead. Framed views, natural materials, and a quiet palette rooted in the landscape creates a place that feels both expansive and grounded.”
The reimagined main lodge serves as the epicenter of the retreat. Here, floor-to-ceiling windows invite the dramatic outdoor landscape directly into the space, offering sweeping views of the moving water and nearby cliffs. A central double-sided fireplace anchors the room, establishing a warm gathering space that naturally transitions into Ember, the property’s new restaurant and cocktail lounge.

The renovation also breathes new life into the property’s accommodations, introducing a refreshed look to 40 creekside and 39 riverfront suites. The final phase of the ambitious project, an overhaul of 31 riverfront cabins, is currently underway and slated for completion this month.
“Resting along the Colorado River, each guestroom looks out over moving water and glowing red rock—a setting that feels almost unreal in its beauty,” says Stina Funch, founder and creative director of Atwater Inc. Studio. “The guestroom design was kept quiet and intentional, using natural materials and warmth to honor the landscape and invite guests to slow down and simply be present.”
