Ritz-Carlton debuted its first Hungarian property with the Ritz-Carlton, Budapest. The hotel, crafted by G.A. Design’s local studio, includes 170 guestrooms and 30 suites.
Located on Elizabeth Square, overlooking St. Stephen’s Basilica and the Danube River, the hotel is housed within a protected historic structure that served as the headquarters of an Italian insurance company when first built in 1914. Much of the original architecture remains in place, including regal exterior statues. The interior has received a contemporary facelift that embodies a color scheme inspired by the nearby river.
The eighth and ninth floors are home to the Ritz-Carlton Club Level, while the ground floor features the new Budapest ballroom, with space for up to 180 guests, located adjacent to five additional meeting rooms. Flooded with natural light, the Ritz-Carlton Spa and Fitness Center includes an indoor pool and three treatment rooms.
Two new restaurants are also making their debut. The laidback Deak Street Kitchen will serve Hungarian cuisine and provide views of the city’s Fashion Street from its terrace. And set beneath the building’s striking stained glass cupula and grand crystal chandelier, the Kupola Bar and Lounge is a chic space that showcases the building’s original architectural columns.
