The Royal Scotsman, A Belmond Train has revealed plans to unveil two new suites in May 2024.
Designed by Paris-based Tristan Auer, the Grand Suites will offer guests double beds, private living areas, and ensuite bathrooms for two-night journeys through the Scottish highlands. “I traveled to Scotland before starting my design. I was impressed by the beauty of the landscape and inspired by the harmony of natural colors of the flora, skies, and stone,” Auer says. “I wanted the guests to be in tune with Scottish heritage, surrounded by strong emotions, satisfying not only sight but all the other senses as well.”
Indeed, landscapes are reinforced across elements, like locally sourced green marble stoneware basins, embossed leather headboards, and woven straw details. Made from driftwood, armchairs inspired by Orkney chairs, a fixture of the highlands, draw upon the setting, along with Celtic patterns that adorn larch marquetry wood panels and metal door and furniture handles. Other decorative patterns will echo Edwardian flair through Pictish stone motifs ensconced in an earthy color story of green, gray, beige, and blue.
