Salamander Collection has concluded a series of property-wide renovations for the Salamander Washington DC hotel.
The refreshed 373-room waterfront property now includes a new Living Room, Salamander spa, a redesigned Lobby Lounge with a secluded courtyard, reimagined suites, and Dōgon, a dining destination led by chef Kwame Onwuachi.
Public spaces at Salamander Washington DC
The revamp hotel introduces a thoughtfully redesigned arrival experience, beginning with a new Living Room conceptualized by Champalimaud Design.
The inviting space blends the rustic charm of Middleburg, Virginia’s countryside with urban sophistication, featuring warm whites, soft blues, and custom lighting inspired by equestrian movements—a nod to the brand’s Virginia roots. Meanwhile, the centerpiece, a rotunda adorned with classical Greek-inspired bas relief art from ART SPACE NYC, pays homage to DC’s iconic monuments.
Adjacent to the Living Room, the Lobby Lounge opens to a landscaped courtyard, offering expanded seating, cozy dining areas, and a striking stone-top bar.
The new Salamander Spa
The new Salamander Spa, designed by Arch Amenities and MONOGRAM at BBGM, features an entry located just off the Living Room. A serene reception area with water features, natural accents, and soothing textures sets the tone.
The spa includes six private treatment rooms, a multi-use suite, sauna facilities, esthetic rooms, a nail studio, and fitness center. A Men’s Grooming Lounge, created in partnership with Groom Guy, provides an elevated styling experience honoring Alonzo Herndon, a trailblazing Black barber.
Guest suites and the Monument Club
Thomas Pheasant reimagined the hotel’s 51 suites, drawing inspiration from the architectural elegance of the Tidal Basin and DC’s Monumental Core. Each suite features custom furniture with clean lines and luxurious finishes, like brushed wood, satin bronze accents, and stone.
Meanwhile, the eighth floor houses the exclusive Monument Club, a two-story retreat offering panoramic views, personalized concierge service, and a curated F&B experience in a newly remodeled lounge.
Dōgon by Kwame Onwuachi
Marking chef Kwame Onwuachi’s celebrated return to the capital, signature restaurant Dōgon offers a bold dining experience that draws from West African heritage and DC’s history.
The interiors, designed by Modellus Novus, are inspired by the night sky with dramatic chain curtains that evoke Gunter’s chain, a distance-measuring device used by Benjamin Banneker to survey the boundaries of the nation’s captial.
