The CIM Group has purchased New York’s Martha Washington Hotel and tasked sbe Hotel Group to manage the existing property, which it will repurpose as the Redbury Hotel in collaboration with Los Angeles-based photographer Matthew Rolston.
Sam Nazarian, chairman and CEO of sbe, launched the Redbury brand with Rolston in 2010.
As the Redbury’s creative director, Rolston will collaborate with Dakota Development, an sbe subsidiary, and Avenue Interiors—the designers behind Redbury South Beach and Redbury Hollywood—to juxtapose the brand’s signature bohemian-style concept with a music-inspired narrative. The 256-room property’s aesthetic will nod to Tin Pan Alley, a nearby area renowned for the popular music that was created there.
“Even though my work is extremely diverse, the unifying factor has always been a strong sense of place and a special feeling of romance,” says Rolston. “I want guests to feel both stimulated and relaxed at the same time.”
Marta, an open-kitchen pizza restaurant by Union Square Hospitality Group, will remain on the hotel’s ground floor.
To debut early next year, the Redbury New York will share amenities with sbe’s nearby SLS Park Avenue hotel, which is set to open next summer.
