Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts unveiled the Midtown Shangri-La, Hangzhou, located in the mixed-used Kerry Central Complex, which also houses an office tower, apartments, and a high-end shopping mall. The 417-room hotel is the Hong Kong-based brand’s second hotel in Hangzhou—the first, the Shangri-La Hotel, Hangzhou, was built more than three decades ago.
The design is inspired by West Lake, a UNESCO cultural heritage site located five minutes from the 13-story property. Art objects such as a traditional silk painting of the lake and a custom-designed chandelier that mimics rippling water are displayed in the lobby in homage to the landmark.
Each guestroom ranges in size from 483 to 926 square feet and features views of the lake, as well as pieces of ice crack Ge Kiln porcelain that display patterns of lotus flowers. The executive suites, specialty suites, and Horizon Club lounge are on the top floors.
F&B options include the Central Market, which serves global cuisine; the Great Lounge, which offers tea and cocktails as well as live performances; and Cheng Zong, a Chinese restaurant that serves casual Cantonese and bespoke Hangzhou cuisine, and features a setting of plush carpets and Oriental artwork.
Other highlights include the hotel’s heath club, which is fully equipped with a gym, indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, and steam rooms; CHI, the Spa, which offers treatments based on traditional Chinese philosophy; and the Grand Ballroom, which can seat up to 840 guests for dinner.
