Part of Hilton’s Curio Collection, the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego is undergoing a $400 million overhaul. Among updates impacting the historic destination is the addition of Shore House at the Del, a three-story residential concept designed by Leo A Daly that overlooks Coronado beachfront. Home to 75 one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, Shore House draws inspiration from Hotel del Coronado’s distinctive Queen Anne Revival character and its Victorian architectural elements—from gables, red roof shingles, and white siding to stained glass windows and crimson sashes.
“Shore House stands apart by creating historic surfside experiences with a residential scale. It is designed essentially as a neighborhood of seaside residences,” says Ryan Martin, director of design in Leo A Daly’s Dallas office. “Beyond designing the exterior and laying out all of the new functional planning and amenities, Leo A Daly imbued a modern, California-coastal aesthetic through furniture and artwork collections that express deep connections to the ocean.”
Rich, heavy timber beams line the building’s modern interiors along with natural stone textures paired with soft blue and cream hues that form a backdrop for an impressive art collection that harkens to the history and culture of the setting.
Beyond fully equipped kitchens and adjoining suites, amenities comprise indoor-outdoor gathering spaces, including a 15,000-square-foot ballroom and a 14,000-square-foot great lawn. An oceanfront bar, pool deck, and Jacuzzi further activate the Shore House’s alfresco spaces.
