The Gwen, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Chicago, has unveiled designs for the forthcoming revamp of all 311 guestrooms and suites. Crafted by locally based Simeone Deary Design Group, the Art Deco-style accommodations will draw inspiration from the glamour of hotel’s namesake, sculptor Gwen Lux. The 1930s-inspired hotel, which debuted in September 2015, introduced a remodeled lobby, rooftop, lounge, and restaurant in May 2016.
Rooted in approachable elegance, the new guestrooms will be appointed with contemporary elements woven into the history of the hotel’s home, downtown Chicago’s former McGraw-Hill building. Jewel-toned accents and luxurious upholstery will be featured throughout as a reflection of the retail outlets in the city’s iconic Magnificent Mile shopping district situated located just below the hotel. The atmosphere will also aim to infuse an elevated experience reminiscent of Chicago’s days as the Vacation City, channeling the bygone era with the help of artwork inspired by Lux’s work situated above each bed. Lux’s characteristic femininity will also appear be channeled in backlit mirrors, artistic sketching wallpaper, and splashes of peach tones alongside mossy green velvet, marble and brass pieces, and weathered river tones.
Slated for completion in April, project will take place in stages floor by floor to ensure as little disruption as possible.
