Six Senses has expanded its Asian portfolio into the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan with the opening of the Six Senses Bhutan in the Land of the Thunder Dragon. The resort, crafted by the Six Senses in-house team has been inaugurated with the launch of its first three lodges spread across the mountains in Thimphu, Punakha, and Paro. Additional lodges in Gangtey and Bumthang are slated to arrive in summer 2019.
The Six Sense Bhutan comprises five lodges that span the west and central valleys of the Himalayas that each immerse travelers in the cultural identity of the region. Varied in style, the lodges highlight the diversity and special character of each valley. Subtle references to Bhutanese architecture are expressed throughout interiors with the simple lines of the natural timber furniture installed alongside locally inspired elements like vegetable-dyed, antique Himalayan rugs and bukharis, or traditional wood-burning stoves. The Six Senses emphasis on sustainability is also honored onsite with management systems that monitor the lodges’ energy, waste, water, purchasing, and chemical usage.
