The St. Regis San Francisco has unveiled its latest series of renovations. Led by London-based design firm Blacksheep and Toronto-based Chapi Chapo Design, the multi-phase refresh impacts guestrooms and public spaces, including the lobby, bar, and meeting spaces. A new onsite eatery is also set open later this spring.
“The design speaks to a place where modern design merges with storied architecture and remnants of a bygone era. Patterns and linework mimic the engineering feats of the past as well as hint at the modern tech hub that the city has become today,” says Blacksheep associate interior designer Michele Owen. “Pacific Ocean blues are balanced with the warm pastels of the breathtaking sunrises and sunsets over the Bay and metallic touches echo the sunlight as it moves across the city.”
In the reception area, visitors are greeted by a show-stopping chandelier and a soothing painting by Randy Hibberd that showcases a golden abstract rendering of the city. Another dreamy watercolor commands the nearby dining area with rich olive green and lighter notes of pink. The St. Regis Bar evokes a distinctive Northern California flair thanks to a rich new materiality in the space. Soft metallics nod to the city’s iconic vistas, while new patterns and linework gesture to San Francisco’s storied architecture and the region’s tech ingenuity. Further, dark green and dusty rose-pink upholstery offsets a sweeping brass trellis that wraps the lounge area in homage to the city’s trolley lines. Custom tables with sculptural stone bases and brass details infuse a contemporary ethos into the modern noir ambiance as well.
In addition to enhancing the hotel’s 15,000 square feet of meeting and event space, Chapi Chapo spearheaded overhauls to the 260 guestrooms and suites. Each luxe accommodation has been reinvigorated with custom furniture, new technology, and thoughtful color and material palettes that recall the California landscape. The soft curves of newly installed wallcoverings echo the forms of the city’s rolling hills, complemented by silver, copper, and iron tones.
