As part of its effort to expand into Latin American and Caribbean markets, Starwood Hotels & Resorts has announced the debut of Las Alcobas Hotel, Mexico City.
“The rapid growth of Starwood’s luxury brands in Mexico reflects a robust demand for high-end hospitality from an increasingly affluent market. This opening reaffirms Mexico’s position as Starwood’s largest market in Latin America and demonstrates our commitment to accelerate growth in the region,” says Jorge Giannattasio, Starwood’s senior vice president and chief of Latin America and Caribbean operations. “We are excited to welcome Las Alcobas to the Luxury Collection portfolio because it captures the energy of this thriving metropolis and delivers the sophistication demanded by the world’s most discerning travelers.”
Located in Polanco—the city’s business, commercial, and entertainment district in the city center—the hotel features 35 rooms and suites designed by Yabu Pushelberg.
The aesthetic is a contemporary spin on Mexico City’s historic culture achieved through elements such as handmade rugs, original art by modern Mexican artists, and leather paneled guestroom walls. The penthouse suites feature wraparound terraces providing panoramic city views. A large spiral staircase highlighted by intimate alcoves serves as the lobby’s focal point. Amenities include signature restaurant Anatol, Aurora spa, and 24-hour fitness center.
Starwood currently operates 94 hotels in Latin America and the Caribbean and plans to open 15 more before 2017.
