JMH Development, Madden Real Estate Ventures, and Starwood Hotels & Resorts have collaborated to develop Aloft South Beach, slated to open this month in Miami. The 235-room waterfront hotel will be within walking distance of South Beach nightlife, the Lincoln Road shopping area, and Ocean Drive.
Its Miami Beach location inspired Boston-based ADD Inc. as they designed the hotel, which is set on the site of the historic 1954 Ankara Motel. Interiors are boutique-style with a contemporized open-air layout complemented by exteriors featuring preserved Art Deco-inspired architecture. Elements such as the Historic wing’s brick walls, refurbished Ankara Motel signage, and the pool’s shape were retained from the original property during the design process. A translucent staircase will ascend in the lobby’s two-story atrium with custom leather wrapping and a light fixture inspired by drum cymbals. Work by local Miami artists will be on display throughout the hotel, such as a series of black and white images of 1970s beach scenes in the lobby. A large-scale aerial view photograph of models in vintage swimsuits will be located near the entrance.
The hotel will feature several F&B outlets, including the re:mix lounge, the W XYZ bar, and restaurateur Stephen Starr’s Continental Miami restaurant.
Via a 36-foot sliding glass wall, the W XYZ bar connects to an outside deck featuring a splash pool with private cabanas. Adjacent to the deck are 22 suites, most with private terraces, overlooking Lake Pancoast. The Historic wing’s third-floor guestrooms include private lakeview balconies, while the fourth floor features Breezy suites with oversized private terraces. In the main tower, 350-square-foot rooms overlook the city. Each guestroom includes a color photograph by British fashion photographer Miles Aldridge.
Additional amenities include a 24/7 fitness center, 1,500 square feet of indoor meeting areas, 5,000 square feet of al fresco event space, a playroom area intended for creative meetings, paddleboard yoga, kayaking from the hotel’s private dock, and cruiser bicycles to explore the boardwalk.
