In collaboration with Arizona-based Power Hotel Group, Starwood Hotels & Resorts has opened the Sheraton Mesa Hotel at Wrigleyville West—the Chicago Cubs’ spring training facility—designed by Phoenix-based Ideation Design Group (IDG) in Mesa, Arizona.
The four-story, 160,000-square-foot hotel broke ground last spring and officially opened this month.
“We began concept designs last March,” says IDG senior interior designer Jennifer Milmont. “Our vision was to create a space with a modern sophisticated look and feel that reflects Arizona’s natural elegance.”
IDG and IDG Foodservice designed the hotel’s lobby, 180 guest rooms, 30,000-square-foot conference center, and two onsite full-service restaurants. The property features a warm desert color palette throughout with custom wood paneling paired with an indigenous stone two-sided fireplace in the lobby. In reference to Chicago’s Wrigley Field, IDG chose to use brick walls and Edison bulb light fixtures in the Stats Sports Grill, while Legends steakhouse includes wood slat ceilings stretching over booths equipped with custom privacy screens and accented throughout by deep slate blue colors.

“This is probably one of the fastest large hotel projects that have ever been built in Arizona,” says Carl Schaffer, principal of Ideation Design Group. “Mesa has been unbelievably accommodating and a wonderful partner in this experience.”
Amenities include a pool area, fitness center, onsite salon, and full-service Starbucks café.
