B Hotels and Resorts is planning to rebrand Fort Lauderdale, Florida’s landmark Yankee Clipper hotel as the new B Ocean Resort Fort Lauderdale—slated for completion in mid-2016.
The hotel is located near the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Port Everglades, and the city’s downtown area.
“B Hotels and Resorts is proud to be part of the transformation of one of Fort Lauderdale’s most historic landmarks,” says Chris Tompkins, COO of B Hotels and Resorts. “This hotel truly epitomizes the foundation of our brand’s DNA. The property’s renovation allows us to fully capitalize and showcase our brand’s in-vogue styling and décor.”
Founded by Fort Lauderdale hotelier Robert Gill Jr. in 1956, the site’s historic elements—such as the iconic Wreck Bar—will be preserved.
Scheduled to begin later next month, New York-based Stonehill & Taylor will head the 487-room hotel’s renovation, which will include upgrades to its lobby, restaurants, corridors, rooms, outdoor areas, and public spaces. The hotel will remain open during the refresh.
One of four local beachside properties, B Ocean Resort Fort Lauderdale’s new design will emphasize its ocean location with floor-to-ceiling windows set against a spacious layout. Accommodations will feature blue and gray hues and sea turtle-inspired artwork.
Two B Indulged Spa Suites AVEDA, a grab-and-go dining venue, and new meeting and event space will also be added.
Upon completion, the resort’s indoor function space will double to 14,000 square feet. Outdoor meeting spaces will include the Lido deck, main pool deck, beachside pool deck, Cruise deck, Marina terrace, and a private beach.
