Local design practice Studio Collective has unveiled its third project with Jonathan Beach Club in Santa Monica, California. The members’ only club has debuted its revamped onsite restaurant, bar, and lounge—complete with a warm residential style akin to an oceanfront Spanish villa.
A contemporary material palette of matte brass accents and wire-brushed, white oak floors inject a modern sensibility across the interiors, complementing the reimagined floorplan of the club’s dining room. Beyond two custom, arched and blackened steel doors, the double-height dining room is appointed with three pairs of large sliding wood-framed glass doors that highlight ocean views. Capped with a wood planter, a grand bookshelf of white oak and brushed brass partitions the dining room and open kitchen, while Spanish details like wood beamed ceilings and handscraped wide plank woods continue the theme.
In the bar and lounge, ceilings have been finished with chevron wood planking, while the live-edge walnut slab gracing the bartop serves as a centerpiece. Scalloped walnut wainscot and butt-jointed antique mirror panels adorn the wall opposite the bar. Custom seating populates the reimagined interior along with a fireplace.
Leading to the outdoor dining terrace, the new private dining room is designed with large, book-matched marble slabs as well as custom upholstered leather wall panels and parquet wood floors to evoke sophistication. Conceived like a Spanish courtyard, the new dining terrace features lush landscaping as well as a custom green wall, sculptural fireplace, and unobstructed 180-degree views.
