The resort-style Tarrytown House Estate in Tarrytown, New York has unveiled its $15 million refresh from Venice, California-based studio, Knibb Design. Balancing its inherited Old World charms with contemporary updates, the revamp of the 214-room retreat also heralds the arrival of a new restaurant, Goosefeather.
“Inspired by the original inhabitants of the historic King Mansion onsite, we established a narrative around a world-traveler who loved filling the spaces with modern art, and other treasures gathered from around the world,” says Sean Knibb of Knibb Design.
The interior design features details like custom toile wallpaper illustrating the intersection of traditional and contemporary. Joan Miró-inspired large-scale murals adorn the ceilings in certain public spaces, while the original woodwork of the mansion is showcased across the library and ground floor. The new Cantonese barbecue concept, Goosefeather is positioned adjacent to a nine-seat bar housed within an indoor atrium. In addition, the former F&B venue of the mansion has been reimagined as an multifunctional room, accommodating 28 private banquet spaces, and meeting areas that embrace the backdrop of the Hudson Valley.
