Rosewood Hotels & Resorts is set to add its second London hotel, the Chancery Rosewood, in 2024. The forthcoming 139-room urban retreat in the Mayfair district will balance the rich history of the iconic Eero Saarinen structure it occupies with a contemporary flair courtesy of British architect David Chipperfield and French architect Joseph Dirand, the latter of which will oversee the interior design.
Original midcentury design details—like the Grade-II façade and diagrid ceiling—will be preserved during the thorough restoration in order to enhance and reinforce Saarinen’s vision of a “palace on the park.” Located on Grosvenor Square, the property will be sensitively updated by Dirand with a sense of art de vivre defined by intimacy and glamour. The sophistication and creativity of the 1920s and 1960s will steer much of the refresh, which will adorn the interiors with a rich, warm color palette, Art Deco-style details, walnut paneling, and marble and brass accents reminiscent of a traditional British gentlemen’s club.
The Chancery Rosewood’s F&B spaces will be crafted by Parisian architect Tristan Auer and Melbourne-based Bar Studio, while Yabu Pushelberg will spearhead the design of Asaya, the property’s integrative wellness facility. Five retail outlets and a range of meeting and event spaces, including a 750-square-foot ballroom, will round out the onsite amenities.
