The Gates Hotel Key West, operated by Highgate Hotels, will open April 1st.
The independent hotel’s name references its location at Key West’s point of entry. Inspiration from Hemingway’s vintage Key West informs the design, which features residential-style interiors. Generally minimalist in aesthetic, the common areas and guestrooms feature pops of color and imagery by local photographer Jorge de la Torriente of De La Gallery is prominent throughout. Guestrooms highlights also include exposed whitewashed beams, custom handwashed cypress platform beds, and handpicked rugs.
Some amenities and entertainment will be provided by local artisans and brands, including cocktails and tours by the island’s First Legal Rum distillery and bicycles for rent that are custom designed for the hotel by Martone Cycling Co. Food truck cuisine and Prohibition-themed drinking spaces reference island culture. Signature food truck the Blind Pig is located on Rum Row and serves tapas-style regional Caribbean cuisine known as “conch fusion.”
