The George Hotel has opened its doors within Georgetown, South Carolina’s historic district.
Developed and owned by Winyah Hospitality and operated by the Indigo Road Hospitality Group, the waterfront property features 56 guestrooms and suites alongside a full-service restaurant, bar, and private event space.
The hotel, curated by Jenny Keenan Design, houses an eclectic collection of vintage European furnishings and custom pieces inspired by the surrounding area’s 18th- and 19th-century architecture—from a jewel-toned, fabric-skirted front desk to bespoke headboards in each guestroom. Historic fabrics, mural wallpapers, and whimsical paintings by local artists are also featured.
Anchoring the interior, the lobby features two-toned hardwood and limewashed plank walls, setting a neutral backdrop for the space’s collection of patterned sofas, wingback chairs, and oriental rugs. An arched hallway covered in a striking bird-patterned wallpaper calls in nature as guests pass through to the elevators.
Each guestroom varies in color scheme and feature vintage seating, ceramic and glass light fixtures, and custom fabric headboards, all grounded by cypress softwood flooring. Details like cording and fringe elements amplify an eclectic, high-touch aesthetic that nods to early American style.
