The Lowell, a luxury hotel located on New York’s Upper East Side, has announced plans for a redesign coming this summer. The design will include a new restaurant and bar and a library lounge, as well as facelifts to the lobby and Pembroke Room.
Los Angeles-based designer Michael Smith and London architect Mark Pinney are tasked with giving the Lowell its new look. Smith, who refreshed the hotel’s guestrooms in recent years, will now set his eyes on a new vision for the public spaces. Pinney will focus his efforts on creating an aesthetic balance between areas on the first and second floor and Smith’s spaces.
Famed restaurateur Charles Masson will collaborate with chef Christian Delouvrier on a vision for a French restaurant with Mediterranean influences, a foundational aspect of the redesign. Masson’s passion for gardening will manifest itself through the inclusion of flowers throughout the interior as well as a new garden terrace with a fireplace, fountain, and large skylight.
“We are continually innovating our design while staying true to who we are,” says the hotel’s co-owner and design director Dina De Luca Chartouni. “The Lowell has a soul that is derived from a unique blend of elements including the timeless luxury of our rooms and suites, the talented and devoted staff, and our loyal guests who choose to make the Lowell their home in New York.”
