Moxy Hotels has unveiled the Moxy San Diego Downtown/Gaslamp Quarter, thus marking its arrival in California with a design from locally based J Street Hospitality.
Spread across nine stories, the 126-room hotel honors the region’s naval history with a camouflage wall in the lobby as well as a shipping container that lines the fitness center. Additional nautical details permeate across the interior, ranging from porthole mirrors to Navy “dungaree” denim headboards in each modular guestroom. The lobby’s exposed electric conduit and steel finishes and wood accents also reflect an industrial sensibility. Upstairs, a library stocked with books on San Diego’s naval past overlooks the lobby and indoor-outdoor social spaces such as the Bar Moxy and new concept the Now, which is home to numerous gaming options from pinball to shuffleboard.
Located on the back of the building, the hotel also showcases the first San Diego mural from Los Angeles-based artist Paul Nandee.
