The Nines, a Starwood Luxury Collection hotel in Portland, Oregon, has unveiled property-wide upgrades by its original designer, ForrestPerkins. The Dallas-based firm refreshed the hotel’s 331 guestrooms and suites and public spaces, pairing a traditional and contemporary aesthetic.
Housed within the top nine stories of the city’s historic downtown Meier & Frank Building in Pioneer Square, the hotel’s guestrooms have been updated using its signature Tiffany blue hue as well as new furniture and carpeting. The Nines’ existing 419-piece art collection has been expanded with five new works from artists including Kelly Reemsten and Karen Russell.
The Nines’ two-story Bird Song chandelier is upgraded by Portland-based creative technology and production studio dotdotdash. Cascading down the hotel’s grand staircase, the fixture comprises 11 strands of 35-foot-long blown glass that form the shape of the sound waves of a bird song. The piece is now equipped with an audible bird vocalization to accompany its light show.
The 7,200-square-foot ballroom and pre-function spaces now feature new wallcoverings, lounge seating, and carpeting. In addition to a new boardroom, the Club Lounge has been repurposed with built-in banquettes and millwork, and new furniture, lighting, and artwork.
New carpets and furniture have also been installed in the Atrium Lobby, creating seating enclaves for solo guests or groups. Located off the lobby, the Georgian Room has been revamped as an extension of onsite steakhouse Urban Farmer, and now boasts a wine wall-partition that can split the space in two, offering flexibility as a private dining room or banquet or meeting area.
