Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA) has completed a stylish upgrade of the Ritz-Carlton Suite at the Ritz-Carlton, South Beach in Miami. Drawing inspiration from the late Morris Lapidus—the hotel’s original architect—the refresh of the tony 2,800-square-foot accommodation reflects the rich history and culture of Miami Beach.
“The Ritz-Carlton Suite at the Ritz-Carlton, South Beach is a tribute to the architecture and design of Morris Lapidus,” says HBA Miami partner Cristian Pinedo, “winking at the Floridian fauna and with the South Beach rhythm in the background. When shaking up those three insights you get a very interesting representation of the past, present, and future of the neighborhood, but from a unique point of view.”
The geometry of the renovated suite nods to Neo-Baroque, or “Miami Modern,” style with ovular forms, while transparent custom screens in the entry foyer ensconce visitors in motifs inspired by the natural splendor of South Florida.
Sheathed in azure and gold shades, sculptural furnishings—including a sinewy velvet sofa—further allude to the setting with wave-like lines adorning the face of the black lacquer console. Moody, sultry textiles span the living room atop herringbone hardwood floors, accented by brass elements and Art Deco patterns that instill modernism. Overhead statement lighting comprising globe pendants and frosted glass and brass detailing also evokes a modernist flair.
A monumental bespoke headboard commands focus in the primary bedroom with its layering and built-in lighting and side tables. Millwork panels also wrap the bedroom, which is anchored by a velvet bed and intimate seating area. The walk-in closet boasts terrazzo and pale oak wood, while a standalone soaking tub in the bathroom signifies opulence as well.
