Following an acquisition by Turnstone Ventures, the Shire Woodstock has joined the Life House portfolio. The 50-key property in Woodstock, Vermont marks the New York-based lifestyle hotel brand’s first unit in the state, as well as its 20th hotel in New England.
“We are thrilled to announce Life House’s first project in Southern Vermont,” says Life House managing director Bryan Dunn. “We believe the Green Mountains region is underserved by sophisticated independent hotel operators and look forward to expanding our presence to include additional unique and historic properties.”
Originally constructed in 1963, the Shire Woodstock serves as a year-round retreat on the banks of the Ottauquechee River. The property will operate “as is” under its existing branding for the time being, as Life House’s in-house team readies to revamp into a locally rooted boutique hotel boasting elevated interiors and an enhanced range of public programming.
“We are honored for the opportunity to steward the Shire Woodstock, one of the most prominent assets in the high-barrier-to-entry town of Woodstock,” adds Jeff Glew, managing partner at Turnstone Ventures. “We look forward to working with Life House on a restoration project that will honor the property’s history while enhancing the experience for future visitors to Southern Vermont.”
