Spread across seven of its uppermost floors, the Thompson Central Park New York offers an exclusive guest experience with its Upper Stories rooms. Designed by Stonehill Taylor, the 174 guestrooms and suites, located on floors 26 through 33, complement the refined character of the city skyline, which is framed in the windows of each room.
“As the Thompson is just a short walk from iconic New York City landmarks, such as Central Park and Carnegie Hall, the hotel’s designs nod to Manhattan’s glamour and sophisticated feel,” says Stonehill Taylor principal Bethany Gale. “The spaces allow for work and play through elevated finishes and unexpected details. Linear and curving forms live side by side throughout the rooms to define zones for socializing and respite. Stonehill Taylor wants guests to feel that they can relax from the busy New York streets in a serene and sleek atmosphere.”
Defined by contrasts, Upper Stories are featured off corridors lined with lightly textured walls and dark wood doors that offset the carpet’s ridgeline motif. The spacious rooms are bathed in blue and green hues that instill tranquility, and anchored by the navy-toned leather beds and headboards installed against tambour wall detailing. Dark oak casework and walnut floors provide a sense of elegance, alongside marble tables illuminated by ombré glass pendant lights. Handtufted rugs and sculptural brass tables serve as focal points as well.

Further, the guestrooms and suites are characterized by artwork that nods to Central Park South’s musical legacy, like vintage photography of local jazz clubs and framed orchestral instruments inspired by the hotel’s proximity to Carnegie Hall.
The opulent accommodations are accessed via a private third-floor Upper Stories Lounge, crafted by designer Thomas Juul-Hansen. Echoing the dark tones, warm textures, and comfortable seating found in the rooms, the 2,000-square-foot space comprises a flexible layout apt for coworking or light dining, as well as the Victrola Listening Lounge, which offers an expansive collection of vinyl records.
