West Elm Hotels has teamed up with Signature Development Group and Jordan Real Estate Investments to develop the brand’s latest hotel in Oakland, California, expected to open in 2020. The property will expand on Signature’s Hive community project and draw inspiration from the rich diversity and history of the area. This marks the sixth market West Elm has identified, in partnership with DDK, following properties in Charlotte, North Carolina; Detroit; Indianapolis; Minneapolis; and Savannah, Georgia; the locations were announced in September of last year.
In the heart of the Uptown district and formerly used as an auto retail showroom, the mixed-use Oakland property will infuse an automobile influence in the design of the new six-floor building housing 150 guestrooms, indoor and outdoor bar areas, lobby, and meeting areas. A historic façade from a 1910s Beaux Arts structure, originally created by celebrated Bay Area architect Frederick H. Meyer, will be preserved.
