Meliá Hotels International plans to open a hotel on the Avenida Paulista in Brazil. Opening in 2014 before the FIFA World Cup, the Meliá Paulista is part of the company’s plan to increase its Brazilian portfolio to 20 properties before the 2016 Olympics.
Meliá Paulista is the fifth hotel signed this year in Brazil. After its takeover in March, the hotel will reopen as the Meliá Paulista Business & Convention Hotel. Along with 400 suites and apartments, the hotel will offer a contemporary restaurant, bar, seven meeting rooms, and three event and convention rooms.
Besides Sao Paulo, where Meliá already has a dozen hotels under the TRYP by Wyndham & Meliá brands, the company is also present in Brasilia and Angra dos Reis. By the Brazil Olympics the company expects to have several new hotels open in destinations such as Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Belo Horizonte, or Pernambuco.
