The top story of the Peabody Orlando’s newly constructed 32-story tower, part of its $450-million expansion, was "topped out" this week.
In honor of Veterans Day, a U.S. veteran participated in the topping out ceremony by raising the American flag, which was hoisted to the top of the building along with an evergreen tree as part of a Scandinavian tradition that once was believed to provide good luck for the building’s future occupants.
"We are on a roll and geared up to introducing meeting planners to the most exciting, exquisite, custom-designed meeting venue in North America today," said director of sales and marketing Tony Aslanian.
Scheduled for completion in October 2010, the Peabody Orlando’s expansion includes 750 new guest rooms, 145,000 square feet of new meeting space and a new 15,000-square-foot spa. Upon completion, it will give the hotel a total of 1,641 guest rooms and 250,000 square feet of meeting space, not to mention direct access to the Orange County Convention Center via a new covered walkway.
