Two New York City designers are heading to the Swedish Lapland next month to construct a habitable ice suite at ICEHOTEL as winners of the property’s Art & Design Suites 2009-10 competition. Andre Landeros Michel and Dennis Rolland collaborated for "Gotham on Ice," which takes its inspiration from Manhattan’s glittering skyline, Cole Porter tunes, and a spark of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. The designers will have two-and-a-half weeks to craft the suite using only ice and snow for material.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary, ICEHOTEL is the world’s largest hotel made of ice and snow. Constructed anew every November or December, the 59,000-square-foot development features an ice church and bar and melts away each spring.
