AvroKO has completed work on the Mortimer House, London’s stately new coworking club. The 31,215-square-foot concept is housed within a six-story, Art Deco structure in Fitzrovia, combining hotel-style amenities with residential, office, and club aesthetics.
The former office building was gutted as part of its renovation. Outfitted with a new elevator core, the structure now includes two new balconies on its uppermost levels. With an emphasis on wellness, the club hosts a yoga and pilates studio and meditation room on its top floor, as well as a fitness center in the basement. Private, modular meeting rooms are installed on each floor to accommodate a variety of needs, while the flexible penthouse space serves as a future host for rotating art installations. The fifth-floor members lounge mirrors a library and includes an outdoor deck, numerous fireplaces, and a central marble bar. In addition to a public restaurant, the Mortimer House is outfitted with five kitchens equipped with service lifts to transport food across the building.
Mosaic tiling, plaster moldings, and terracotta ceilings span the refined industrial interior, while original fittings from handrails to concrete columns have been restored. Original wood floors flourish in the bar and lounge area, and original terrazzo flooring spans the central stairwell. Along with bespoke and vintage light fixtures, plush booths are positioned to maximize London views.
