Located in the Palermo Hollywood sub-district of Buenos Aires, event space Room has opened in a double-height storefront. The 1,900-square-foot venue was crafted akin to an art gallery with a flexible layout to ensure effortless reconfiguration.
“We wanted anyone passing by to feel intrigued about what’s happening inside—to stop and contemplate the space,” says Pirca Arquitectura architect Gonzalo Charon. “Once inside, the aim was to create the sense of a wide space, where displayed objects are highlighted and where the furniture also stands out for its design. The guests should feel invited to walk around.”
Against the pristine white backdrop, an industrial, raw materiality including iron, aluminum, and timber contrasts terrazzo floors and plaster walls. Scaffold-like structures were installed to support exhibition, storage, and coworking needs as well.
In addition to sleek tubular fixtures stretched across ceilings, a dramatic cubic fixture is suspended parallel to the mezzanine to contextualize the scale of the interior. The upper level houses a complementary office connected to an outdoor green space to balance work and leisure.
