Swedish luxury streetwear brand SVRN has expanded its retail portfolio with the launch of a Chicago store. The brand’s sensibilities are reinterpreted through an Eastern lens that defies convention by Seoul-based design studio WGNB. Stark interiors compose a narrative of noble materials that serve to promote SVRN’s ethos. “We tried to emphasize the negative space rather than the positive space, which is what we normally do,” WGNB says. “Through focusing on the negative space, we could ultimately focus on the clothing that are displayed.”
The 4,200-square-foot store is defined by an open layout that establishes tension through a variety of focal points. Animated by contemplative curved lines, the interior is divided into two sections including a main sales floor, where monolithic fixtures support the unique choreography. Natural stone is also installed to elevate the design by symbolizing durability amid the passage of time, while wood surfaces are blackened through steaming techniques to infuse warmth. In the back room, brushed stainless steel and micro-cement plaster paints are employed for contrast.
