London-based studio Bergman Design House has completed the design of BXR City, upscale fitness concept BXR London’s third outpost. Debuting as part of the new 22 Bishopsgate development, the 9,000-square-foot members-only boxing gym was conceived as a sleek but holistic fitness destination.
“At BXR City, we’ve fused the signature aspects of the original Marylebone site with an industrial-chic aesthetic full of unexpected touches,” says Bergman Design cofounder Marie Soliman. “We’ve contrasted rough concrete paneling and exposed structures with energizing neon lighting and a rich blend of backlit dark-tinted mirrors, bronze, and brass trim accents.”
Situated more than 400 feet above the street, BXR City features a backdrop of stunning London vistas of London. Eschewing from the materiality of most fitness clubs, BXR City features a gym floor illuminated by suspended architectural lighting that emit a glow without creating reflection on the high-glazed façade.
Artful nods to BXR’s boxing roots abound in the form of murals depicting the faces of famous athletes, like Mohammed Ali. In addition to the gym floor and a spacious zone for boxing training, a 20-foot-tall climbing wall—the tallest in London—serves as the main interior focal point.
The new BXR location also houses yoga and Pilates studios in addition to designated strength and conditioning facilities.
