Wellness concept Relinque Urban Retreat has debuted in Melbourne’s Ivanhoe suburb. The holistic space—comprising a day spa, spinal clinic, Pilates studio, and yoga studio—was crafted by locally based Studio Tate to embody inclusivity through a layered materiality inspired by the setting.
“The design was to support an intuitive client journey, offering an ‘all gender’ day spa experience, with an inherently natural feeling palette,” says Studio Tate senior associate Emily Addison. “It is very much about trying to draw on the natural landscape of the area. It was also important to have a sense of textural earthiness whilst being contemporary and sophisticated.”
The 8,600-square-foot destination welcomes guests with an intuitive layout defined by accessibility, complete with interior spaces oriented in a circular configuration that instills autonomy to navigate the environment with confidence. Raw, tactile materials—including concrete aggregate floors as well as a composition of figured green marble, honed granite, and hand-glazed Japanese tiling—punctuate the arrival experience, while a plinth of bush-hammered granite topped with leather seat pads and emerald green joinery invite guests to recharge. Polished plaster lines curved corridors, where an animated interplay of light and shadow awaits.
Treatment rooms are also warmly layered with granite, timber, and glazed tiles in shades of deep russet and sage green, accented by haloed, diffused light that permeates a sense of calm. While timber stretches across floors and ceilings in the yoga and meditation area, the steam room evokes a cocoon with mosaic surfaces and an ice well framed akin to a central altar is adorned with Japanese ceramic tiles.
