You’re known for your collaborations: Brintons, Durkan, Shaw Hospitality Group, York, and Hunter Douglas Hospitality among them. What are you currently working on?
Our newest partnership is with Hospitality Designs, a furniture manufacturer located in Canada, and with them we are working on designs for our first casegoods collection for the hospitality industry.
What is the key to successful hospitality design partnerships?
Synergy. With our design vision and the understanding of our licensee’s manufacturing capabilities, we can deliver collections that are greater than the sum of their parts. Another important aspect is a high level of respect and trust. I am very lucky to work with partners who encourage my creative spirit and have confidence in my design process.
How do you balance your own creative visions with being flexible enough to meet your client’s needs?
We are dedicated to delivering meaningful, approachable designs, so we always keep the client at the forefront of our process. Offering a large selection of consistent products allows for flexibility and a strong brand presence. That mix of my signature style plus customization options has been my fool-proof formula as a designer.
You have a knack for color and trend forecasting. What influencers do you pay attention to?
We must constantly be in tune with what is going on around us and analyze our observations from a clear design perspective. Movements build up slowly over time. What we see is not the rise and fall of single trends developing on their own, but the evolution of one trend into another as society and tastes evolve. What is happening in the world today, and how does that impact our thoughts, emotions, and desires? These are the drivers that shape trends. We look to art, fashion, and technology-all early influencers.
The Stacy Garcia tagline is ‘stay inspired.’What inspires you?
I am continuously inspired by the people I surround myself with; I call them my tribe. I feel lucky to be part of such an exciting design community. The eclectic style of my line takes inspiration from travel, different cultures, nature, the urban landscape, the universe-the world around me. There’s always something new.
