Overlooking the center of the New York from the AC Hotel New York Time Square‘s rooftop is the opulent Castell Rooftop Lounge crafted by BHDM Design founder Dan Mazzarini. The indoor-outdoor retreat makes a sexy statement with strong geometric forms and allusions to Spanish architecture.
A dramatic 11-foot-tall arched tunnel punctuates the arrival experience at Castell Rooftop Lounge and “was inspired by some of the Catalonian architecture we studied,” says BHDM Design founder Dan Mazzarini.
Set behind dual, 12-foot slabs of French marble, black and mirrored arches are the focal point of the bar. Most of the materials are organic in their feel,” notes Mazzarini. “Our goal was to create an oasis in the sky with sleek appeal.”
Materials including terrazzo, walnut, mohair, and marble convey a warm yet luxurious statement.
The nearly 10-foot-tall fireplace is offset by one of several artworks inspired by Spanish Surrealist Joan Miró.
A custom sectional anchors the fireside seating enclave alongside espresso-colored leather chairs.
“The color green became important to link indoor and outdoor,”Mazzarini adds. “We did custom planters with moss mounds and even some green art to pull in the natural color from outside.”
