Shanghai-based design firm Lukstudio transformed yogurt brand LePur’s Beijing location in the bustling Sanlitun neighborhood into an urban oasis, resplendent in serene, monochromatic moments that explore the interplay between light and shadow.
LePur yogurt café totals 1,180 square feet across the ground floor of a midrise building in the bustling Sanlitun section of Beijing.
Gray terrazzo stretches from the façade into the café, where it adorns counters and service spaces.
“To convey the idea of purity related to the meaning of the brand name, the shop is manifested in a restrained palette of colors and materials,” including gray and white terrazzo and a painted gypsum ceiling, says firm founder Christina Luk.
White terrazzo floors span the front of the house beneath gypsum ceilings.
The rear of the space is outfitted with wooden seating and tables as a departure from the monochromatic storefront.
“Mirrors are used strategically, adding a visual dimension to the tight spaces,” says Luk. “Together, with the wooden pews and matching tables, a sense of worship fills the small room.”
Spotlights are installed above the booths to highlight the dining experience, while wall scones in the form of glowing spheres are subtle, yet distinctive details.
