Within Roseate House—a five-year-old hotel in Aerocity, New Delhi—lies the recently debuted and equally as luxurious Upstage Club. The members-only club is India-based Bird Hospitality’s response to the shift and evolution of what high-end guests want and need from their stay.
“Upstage Club reexamines the role of clubs as shared work and leisure destinations that can serve as catalysts for conversations and create new opportunities for business and growth,” explains Pankhuri Goel, principal of multidisciplinary practice Studio Lotus, which was tasked with conceiving the multifunctional space.
Spread across 4,500 square feet, it features a series of flexible coworking zones and conference rooms that deftly transition into bar and lounge areas at night. Respecting and embracing the hotel brand’s signature design characteristics, Studio Lotus channeled sophistication and opulence throughout the club’s interior, but opted to energize the atmosphere with a dose of playfulness.
Ash gray and brown shades were applied to the walls and upholstered furniture, while marble floors are topped with indigo carpets for a pop of color. Brass-trimmed door handles, light fixtures, and tabletops further establish a sense of luxury across the open, versatile workspace configurations and private spaces. “The focus on multifunctional zones necessitated the use of movable partitions and lightweight furniture,” adds Goel.
The tone is immediately set upon arrival via a reception-cum-bar counter wrapped in horizontal bands of brass that spans more than 16 feet. Overhead, a geometric installation of suspended light fixtures echo the shape of the counter, and a news ticker displays the name of the film that’s set to be screened in Upstage Club’s cinema. They’re both “dynamic features that bring in an element of surprise and animate the interiors,” Goel says, “working in tandem to draw visitors and contribute to creating an inviting, exciting atmosphere.”
