To make the new headquarters of the growing Bouqs Company feel as radiant as the flowers the online florist delivers, Los Angeles boutique firm Wolcott Architecture cultivated a lush greenhouse-inspired design within the 14,000-square-foot brick and glass building. That’s evident beginning at the reception area, where flora not only lines shelving, but also shows up on bright chair upholstery. “Flowers are scattered everywhere, represented both literally and figuratively,” explains Wolcott design lead Pam Juba. Consider the tulip-shaped light fixtures, suspended above three custom nooks, each painted a pristine pastel—hydrangea, rose, or daffodil—for a concept that feels truly in bloom.
To say the social media company’s new headquarters in the former Wanamaker’s department store in New York’s Astor Place is—for lack of better word—Instagrammable would be an understatement. The term, which has found its way into our lexicon, comes alive here, thanks to a design by Frank Gehry’s Los Angeles-based firm. The open office space lends itself to distinctive moments, including a dichroic glass dome nestled in a corner, a green wall at the entrance that encourages selfies, and panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline from the rooftop patio for those quintessential #nofilter sunset photo ops.
The fast food giant recently enlisted architect of record Gensler along with the Chicago office of IA Interior Architects and San Francisco’s Studio O+A to establish a more collaborative space within its relocated West Loop headquarters—a nine-story, 490,000-square-foot sprawling building. With 2,000 employees under one roof, it was important to create “an unpretentious space that is warm and inviting for all guests, regardless of age,” says IA’s principal and design director Neil Schneider, that also symbolically nods to those iconic Golden Arches. Influenced by Hygge—the Danish concept that celebrates coziness—the design boasts an expanded staircase within the five-story atrium that doubles as a social area and acts as a path to tech-integrated quiet and active zones, bleacher seating, and a culinary lab, among other amenities.
