The 10,000-square-foot Tarkett Atelier on Park Avenue South in New York transcends mere retail. “Our goal was to create an experiential space, a place for engagement and connection that blurs the lines between showroom, workspace, and creative studio,” says Sandra Tripp, principal, and managing director at New York-based Huntsman Architectural Group, which designed the space.
A resource for the design community, the modular atelier is carved into fluid zones defined by different Tarkett products. For instance, the neon-hued runway-style entry leads to the stadium-style theater. In the coworking area, guests can sit down at a long table stitched together by 10 different trapezoid-shaped surfaces, while the conference room is framed by dual-layer sheer curtains.
Playful pendants descend from the ceiling of the Lino Room, which is adjacent to the Shh! Room, a soundproofed zone that mixes wingback chairs with wall panels. There is also a samples library, offices with ergonomic sit-stand desks, and a social café combining an open kitchen with counter seating and metal mesh drapery.
Revolving exhibitions courtesy of New York trend studio Edelkoort infuse the atelier with a vibrant cultural dimension. For instance, artwork serves as a dynamic backdrop to white, suspended linear lights and a custom, eco-friendly CYL table by Brooklyn, New York-based Slash Objects. Appropriately fashioned from Tarkett’s own linoleum, it pairs a natural concrete surface finish with a brass inlay.
