Trailborn Hotels & Resorts will expand its national portfolio to the rugged Pacific coastline with the debut of Hill House at Trailborn Mendocino.
Slated to begin welcoming guests this summer, the property—designed in collaboration with HBA San Francisco—marks the first phase of the larger Trailborn Mendocino campus, which will serve as a gateway to Northern California’s redwood forests and wine country.
Revitalizing Hill House
Perched above Mendocino Village, the quaint 44-room retreat breathes new life into the historic former Hill House Inn. Sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding bluffs frame the ocean view guestrooms, welcoming gathering spaces, and flexible event venues made with both travelers and the local community in mind.

Amenities grounded in nature
Expansive grounds emphasize a deep connection to the natural environment. The property features walking paths, picnic areas, and a dedicated sound and movement studio for yoga, forest bathing, and more. For guests looking to venture offsite, curated excursions include sea cave kayaking, horseback riding along the coast, and regional winery tours.
A versatile dining concept serving pizza, cocktails, and desserts will complement Hill House Wine & Grocer as well.
What’s next for Trailborn Mendocino
The campus is set to be completed by early 2027 with the introduction of Mendocino Hotel at Trailborn Mendocino. The forthcoming addition will be home to 20 guestrooms and 25 garden suites, as well as Moonwave restaurant, a restored historic lobby bar, market, parlor, and library.
“We’re excited to bring new life to these historic properties and to be part of the Mendocino community,” says Trailborn cofounder Mike Weiss. “This stretch of coastline is incredibly special, and Hill House has long been part of that story. Our approach is centered on preserving what makes this place meaningful, celebrating its history, honoring the landscape, and creating experiences that feel true to Mendocino.”
