Orlando-based multidisciplinary practice Baker Barrios Architects has acquired Parker-Torres Design, a luxury hospitality-focused firm based in Boston.
Parker-Torres Design, founded by Barbara Parker and Miriam Torres in 2004, will maintain its industry-recognized name and its team of 38 design professionals. Parker and Torres will continue their leadership roles at the firm and also join Baker Barrios as shareholders.
“Over the past decade, Baker Barrios’ strategic mission has focused on growth from our position as Central Florida’s largest architecture firm to becoming a nationally recognized company, with an active portfolio encompassing nearly every property sector and multiple markets across the country,” says Tim Baker, cofounder and CEO of Baker Barrios. “In addition, we have similarly expanded our practice sites beyond Orlando and Tampa to Nashville and Chicago. With the acquisition of Parker-Torres Design, we now will have a physical presence in the Northeast with the addition of this Boston office.”
Parker-Torres Design works with major hotel brands like Four Seasons, Fairmont, Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, and IHG, as well as independent hoteliers.
Its portfolio of projects includes the Ritz-Carlton Naples Beach Resort; the Boston Park Plaza; the InterContinental Washington, D.C. – the Wharf; and the Phoenician, a Luxury Collection Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona; and more.
“We are very excited for this new chapter of Parker-Torres Design and are so pleased to have found the right firm to take us there,” says Torres. “Baker Barrios’ reputation for not only incredible design work but also its ‘people-first’ approach to everything they do reflects the core values of Parker-Torres.”
“Having the support of a firm with such robust architectural, interior and landscape design capabilities will enable the Parker-Torres Design team to truly take our business to the next level,” Parker adds.
Baker Barrios’ portfolio, meanwhile, spans healthcare, entertainment, corporate, education, mixed-use, multifamily, student housing, senior housing, affordable housing, and hospitality.
The firm is currently serving as architect of record for VAI Resort in Glendale, Arizona, which, when complete, will be the largest resort in the state. It is also the designer and architect of record for Westcourt Orlando, a $500 million mixed-use development encompassing residential, office, retail, entertainment, and hospitality.
