London-based AfroditiKrassa has completed designs for the Hilton Tower Bridge’s new bar, TwoRuba.
AfroditiKrassa’s approach for the project was to create a flexible space that transforms seamlessly from casual coffee bar during the day to a lounge bar at night. The concept is based on dualities and reflects the history of London’s Tower Bridge and the modernity of the nearby Bermondsey district, which is rooted in the leather, hide, and wool trades.
The bar’s modernized room divider uses metal mesh drapery—an eco-friendly and hardwearing bronze metal material. The curtain works alongside a central “catwalk” area, which links the three levels of the bar and from which the entire space is articulated.
The material palette plays on contrasts, with quilted tan leather and deep purple suede as well as concrete, copper, brass, and timber. Walnut timber adds warmth and a refined elegance while a bronze mirror offers a more lavish finish. Traditional lead glass windows are the inspiration for a diamond pattern in the wall paneling.
