Restaurateur Tal Baum has unveiled Atrium at Atlanta’s Ponce City Market. Eclectic and bright, the new eatery was designed by Smith Hanes Studio to showcase the craftsmanship of local artisans against a transportive backdrop of vibrant, tropical color.
“At Atrium, you’ll find an inspiring escape from the everyday, an enchanting and visually stimulating environment that celebrates color, whimsy, and passion,” says Smith Hanes Studio founder Smith Hanes. “The restaurant was designed in collaboration with Atrium founder Tal Baum and inspired by her travels, particularly leaning on colorful French cafés and Art Deco buildings. The lines, colors, shapes, and patterns are fascinating, unafraid, and daring. Atrium gives you the freedom to let your hair down, have a little fun, and enjoy the pleasures of an incredible meal in a fantastical space.”
Drapery featuring tropical leaf patterns in bold pink, green, and gold shades bring focal walls to life. Reminiscent of a Parisian café, the parlor greets guests with an eye-catching bar clad with fluted tiling and accented by twinkling brass chandeliers. The bar lounge is punctuated by a handpainted mural, inspired by the iridescent plumage of the Glossy Ibis bird.
Spanish fringe lights are also featured—illuminating the space’s large round tables and a two-toned pink banquette that wraps the perimeter. The main dining room recalls a lush conservatory with soft fern-green paint and dried petals, leaves, and vines artfully suspended above guests. Huge handblown pink glass sconces equipped with brass arms cantilever into the dining room with a soft glow, while plush pink banquettes again appear, offset by plaster and walnut finishes.
