Austin-based hospitality management company New Waterloo is set to expand its portfolio with the launch of the Albert Hotel in Fredericksburg, Texas this winter. Architecture firm Clayton Korte is partnering with New Waterloo on the design of the 114,500-square-foot boutique property, which will pay homage to the legacy of its namesake: Albert Keidel, an architect and historic preservationist.
“The design embraces the fabric of the city and celebrates the hard-won character and patina of the historic structures. The new elements are quiet partners, complementing without overshadowing what’s already there,” notes Clayton Korte principal architect Paul Clayton.
In addition to new volumes, the Albert Hotel will comprise four revitalized historic structures that will preserve the traditional streetscape of the city’s downtown. The materiality will draw influence from the Texas Hill Country region with traditional wood siding and custom raked stucco finishes designed to reflect changing sunlight.
An undulating façade will be accented by generous roof overhands to combat heat gain across the eclectic and unfussy interiors. In addition to 110 guestrooms and suites, the hotel will feature three restaurants, two bars, and a private dining room. A sunken outdoor limestone pool and lounge will also serve as a key social hub along with amenities like a fitness center and a 2,000-square-foot spa.
