The casual elegance of the Italian coast is transmuted across Bar Sprezzatura, a ritzy new bar and restaurant in San Francisco’s Financial District. For the interior design, Martin Brudnizki Design Studio drew inspiration from midcentury Venice to transform the space, located inside the One Maritime Plaza building, into a palatial portal to bygone glamour.
“We wanted it to be a casual yet glamorous drinking and dining destination within the city,” Brudnizki says. “It marries old school glamour and elegance with a sense of fun—the best of both worlds.”
Four large modernist lamp posts cast Bar Sprezzatura in a radiant glow, amplified by high-gloss wood panels and a ceiling of gold mosaic tiles. An expansive bar commands attention with a striped marble face and antiqued mirrored inserts that adorn the backbar. A playful mix of elegant midcentury furniture further emphasizes a modernist viewpoint, which is accented by earthy, upscale tonal fabrics. Patchwork rugs add softness to the venue as well.
